Hello Everyone,
Here's your totally useless fact of the day:
On September 13, 1913, the famous Lincoln Highway, the first paved
transamerican highway, was completed from New York to San Francisco.
Prior to it being built, there were almost no good roads to speak
of in the United States. The relatively few miles of improved road
were only around towns and cities. A road was "improved" if it was
graded; travelers were lucky to have gravel or brick. Most roads,
though, were dirt. The Lincoln Highway was the first major roadway
constructed with the automobile in mind. Later in 1928, thousands
of Boy Scouts fanned out along the highway. At an average of about
one per mile, they installed small concrete markers with a small
bust of Lincoln and the inscription, "This highway dedicated to
Abraham Lincoln."

How are you? I just wanted to say thanks. When you had posted in your
newsletter about my husband and my son's postcard collecting project we
received an envelope full of postcards from Jack in Texas. I sent him a
postcard from one of our favorite places in Massachusetts and he sent us
another envelope full of goodies and included his email this time. I
emailed him to thank him and we have been corresponding ever since. We
discovered that we like a lot of the same music and just yesterday we
received a box from him with some cd's of music that he had made for us
as well as some other fun stuff including a Boston Celtics hat for my
son. Now what would a guy in Texas be doing with a Boston Celtics hat?
LOL He's a really nice guy and we wouldn't have known about him if it
wasn't for your newsletter. So not only can you find great free stuff
through your newsletter but also great friends. Thanks James!
