I just received a "free" Ipod Touch 16GB 2nd gen (way cool) from
ipodsweepstakes.com for (finally) reaching 4000 points. It took only
10 days after I made the award request. It took about 6 months of "a
few minutes every day" interaction. You might want to reiterate to
your subscribers that it's legit, but there are several warnings
they should be aware of:
1) Set up a separate email account for this. You will get tons of
junk mail.
2) Read all the fine print of the "terms and conditions" of each offer
very carefully. Avoid all deals which require credit card numbers and
are legally located outside the US. Some are now located in Belize and
that sounds like big trouble if there's a dispute.
3) Some fine print reveals that if you cancel during a trial period that
you will be charged a "processing" fee or that you will be charged for
any "bonus item" they've included in your deal. Avoid these unless you
intend to pay for the service.
4) Many of the deals automatically sign you up for other "free trial" deals.
You must quit all of these during the trial period or your charge card
will be billed.
5) Some deals allow cancellation only via a phone call or via snail mail.
Call the customer service number to make sure someone's really there.
I found 2 deals where the customer service number never answered.
Avoid them.
6) Keep all records of interaction with the deals until you get credited
the points. You will need these to forward to ipodsweepstakes in order
to get the points credited. They seem pretty reasonable about this.
