Here's your (not so) totally useless fact of the day:
Baseball player Tony Gwynn of the San Diego Padres became only the 22nd
player to reach the milestone 3,000 career hit mark on August 6th, 1999.
Notable is that August 6th is his mother's birthday. Gwynn reached the
milestone 6 years to the day after reaching the 2,000 career hit plateau.

I thought you would enjoy this. I learned this from a seasoned camper. One day
this friend of mine was camping with a huge group of friends when he was asked
if he would like some coffee. They forgot to bring the coffee pot for the fire. Anonter
camper proceeded and took a huge stock pot and opened and dumped a big can
of coffee into it and got it to a rolling boil, and everyone sat there and laughed that
they would be all be drowned in coffee grounds. He then took a dozen eggs and
cracked and dropped them into the coffee. After a few minutes, he started to remove
the eggs one by one. The coffee grounds were embedded in the eggs. They had
swollen to baseball sized. One by one he took the eggs out and what was left was
the best coffee he had ever tried. We thought it was a joke so when we went
camping we tried it with our group. It really worked!
